Rick lives in Enola, PA with his wife enjoying life as it comes. For over 27 years he has been making calls and truly loves doing it. If you ask him why he started making calls, he will tell you “God gave me a gift to do woodworking, I have always seemed to be good at it.” Rick believes It’s a great way to share something of himself with everyone. He wants to leave a simple legacy behind: to be remembered by his friends and turkey hunters because of the quality of his calls. Rick is self taught, but doesn’t hesitate to learn things from other call makers. In his shop he uses many different types of woods and playing surfaces like slate, glass, aluminum, copper, ceramic and corian, they all help him to create a bird in each call. He feels this allows him to offer hunters a large arsenal to go hunting with. Rick makes many styles of box calls, pot calls, several different styles of scratch boxes, tongue calls, trumpets, owl hooters, coyote howlers and rabbit distress calls. Even though Rick already has a great line of calls, he loves to come up with calls that are different and unique. On average, Rick makes between 50 to 200 calls a year.
One of his favorite things is having good friends and call makers come to his shop. As you can only assume the stories and great times that come from this will never be forgotten. He remembers one time at the Miranda Miller breakfast, which was a fundraiser he organized for a little girl with Leukemia. A bunch of call makers donated and showed up full of life. Many of them turned into best friends.
Rick’s favorite animals to hunt would be the Wild Turkey and several different predators. While hunting his favorite type of call to use is his “Deadly Double” pot call and a hen box Because of his love for hunting. He has lots of memorable hunts, but his favorite would be hunting at a benefit hunt for Irving Whitt in Tennessee. One time Rick almost had the opportunity to hunt with Donald Trump Jr. They were trying to schedule a Turkey hunt but unfortunately it never happened. He hopes the chance will come again sometime. Another thing Rick really likes to do is take the opportunity to take Veterans out on spring turkey hunts.
